Apprentice Spray Painter

Spray Painters prepare the surfaces of vehicles for painting (including matching and mixing paint colours) and apply paint. To do this, Spray Painters perform a series of tasks that include removing rough spots on vehicle panels; sanding surfaces by hand and with power sanders; masking areas not to be painted with tape and paper; colour matching and mixing paints to match paint shades and selecting pre-mixed paint. Painting is done by applying primer and finishing coats using spray-guns, after which vehicles are polished and buffed and sometimes treated with rust-proofing chemicals. The use of chemicals and machinery is involved, so an understanding of, and ability to adhere to safety requirements is very important.
